Pedri’s grandfather founded the Pena Barcelonista de Tenerife-Tegueste supporters’ club, and even the dinner plates at home bore the Barça crest.
His brother Fernando played football, and it was Fernando’s coach who first spotted Pedri’s talent, asking permission to recruit him when Pedri was just four years old.
During his time at Las Palmas, he wore the No28 shirt as a nod to Iniesta, since the No8 was already taken.
True to his roots, Pedri’s favourite fruit is the Canarian banana. That comes as no surprise, given his mother worked on a banana plantation during his childhood.
Pedri made his professional debut for Las Palmas on 18 August 2019, aged just 16.
He scored his first senior goal a month later, on 19 September, becoming the youngest goalscorer in the club’s history at 16 years, nine months and 23 days.
The Canary Islander made his La Liga debut for Barcelona on 27 September 2020, before earning his first league start less than a month later, on 17 October.
His UEFA Champions League debut came on 20 October 2020, in a 5-1 home win over Hungarian outfit Ferencvaros. Pedri marked the occasion by scoring Barcelona’s fourth goal, his first for the club under Ronald Koeman.
He represented La Rojita at the FIFA U-17 World Cup Brazil 2019™, helping the side reach the quarter-finals.
At UEFA EURO 2020, Pedri became the youngest player to feature for Spain at either a European Championship or a World Cup, making his tournament debut under Luis Enrique against Sweden aged 18 years, six months and 18 days.
In 2022, Pedri was a central figure in Luis Enrique’s Spain side, who were knocked out of the tournament by Morocco in the last 16. Four years on, with De la Fuente at the helm, the rising star remains fundamental to La Roja’s plans as they pursue global glory.
